How to Stack Bangles: A Simple Guide
A good bangle stack looks effortless, but there is a little method behind it. Here is the simple version we share with friends: start with an anchor, add texture, and stop when it feels like you.
How many bangles should you stack?
Three is where a stack starts. One bangle is a bracelet, two is a pair, three starts to feel like a look. Most people land somewhere between three and five for everyday wear. Five or more is a statement stack, great for weekends, dinners and days you want your wrist to do the talking.
If you are new to bangles, start with three and add one at a time. You will know quickly whether you are a minimalist or a more-is-more stacker.
Step 1: Pick your anchor
Every stack needs one piece that sets the tone. It is usually the widest or most detailed bangle. In our collection that is the Eden Bangle, our widest hand-carved design. If you prefer something softer, the Floral Bangle works as an anchor too.
Step 2: Add texture
A stack of identical bangles can look flat. Mixing a carved pattern with a hammered finish gives the eye something to move across. Our Hammered Bangle is a dainty 12-gauge band hand-hammered so it catches the light, which makes it the easiest supporting piece to add around a wider bangle.
Step 3: Vary the widths
Wide, thin, wide is a simple pattern that always works. Try thin bangles on either side of your anchor, or cluster the thin ones together and let the wide one sit on its own. Thin bangles between wider ones also help keep the wider pieces from rubbing.
Step 4: Decide on one metal or two
All gold feels warm and classic. All silver feels cool and clean, and is a great fall and winter look. Mixing both is completely fine; the trick is to let one metal lead and use the other as an accent. Our gold vs silver guide goes deeper on this.
Three stacks to start with
- The Everyday Three: one Floral between two Hammered. Quiet, easy, goes with everything.
- The Perfect Stack: one Eden, one Floral, one Hammered, all in the same metal. See The Perfect Stack.
- The Full Wrist: two Eden and three Hammered. Bold, a little jingly, made for summer dresses and rolled-up sleeves.
Stacking tips people ask about
Should you wear bangles with a watch?
Yes. Either stack bangles on the same wrist as your watch, with thinner bangles closest to it, or wear your watch on one wrist and your stack on the other. Both look intentional.
Do bangles stack better in the same size?
Keep your stack in one size so the bangles fall together on your wrist. Grouped bangles also tend to stay in place better than a single loose one. Not sure of your size? Use our bangle size guide.
Is it cheaper to buy a set?
Yes. Our bangle sets are priced lower per bangle than buying the same pieces one at a time, so a set is the easiest way to start a stack.
